Alaska State Flag. The golden stars represent the Big Dipper and the North Star. The flag was designed in 1926 by a 13-year old Native American boy named Bennie Benson from the village of Chignik. Alaska is the 49th and largest state in the U.S.A. It achieved statehood on January 3, 1959 and is proudly known as the "Last Frontier".
