Flag of Sri Lanka. The official flag was adopted on December 17, 1978. Green represents the country's Muslim population and orange represents the Hindus. The gold lion was originally the national flag of Ceylon (before 1815). The sword signifies authority; the four leaves are Buddhist symbols.
